In memory of the Honorary President of the Public Organization "Association of Psychiatrists of Ukraine," Mr. Semen Fishelevych Gluzman
2026-02-18
On February 16, the heart of the esteemed psychiatrist, Honorary President of the Association of Psychiatrists of Ukraine, Mr. Semen Fishelevych Gluzman, stopped beating.
From the very beginning of our public organization's establishment, Semen Fishelevych consistently contributed to its development. This included speaking to families of people with mental health conditions, participating in events organized by our organization, and engaging board members of the Psychohabilitation public organization in joint activities with the Association of Psychiatrists of Ukraine.
Today, we recall his incredible memories of 10 years of imprisonment for his stance that psychiatry cannot be punitive; it must help people. We recall his efforts in establishing the Center for Medical and Social Rehabilitation at the Communal Non-Profit Enterprise "Psychiatry Clinical Hospital," and creating a library that houses many psychiatric works translated with his assistance.
He held great respect for young psychiatry specialists. Perhaps it was because he saw in them the future of helping people with mental health conditions and the continuation of the cause he himself fought for his entire life.
In 2024, it was Semen Fishelevych who supported our round table "Paths to a Barrier-Free Life for Individuals with Mental Health Conditions" for International Mental Health Day at Ukrinform. At that time, he said that his dream had come true because he saw in our organization the embodiment of a long-held dream to change and humanize the system of care for people with mental health conditions. For us, these words were a great honor and a great responsibility.
Despite his health condition and advanced age, Semen Fishelevych always supported our events and listened attentively to the opinions of families of people with mental health conditions. His sense of justice was extraordinary, and therefore invaluable.
Thank you, Mr. Semen, for your cooperation, support, and empathy towards people who strive every day for the opportunity to feel like full citizens of their country.
Our sincere condolences to his loved ones. We remember.
Rest in peace, Mr. Semen.
And we will continue to work and carry forward the cause you believed in.
