During the briefing on June 29, 2024, our partners from the Public Organization "Psychability" presented the results of a survey of the level of satisfaction of Kyiv men and women with mental disorders with the social and medical services available to them. The reports indicated an increase in the number of requests for psychiatric care almost 3.5 times compared to 2023, which only according to official data in 2024 amounts to more than 500,000 people.

The purpose of the public presentation of the project "Advocacy campaign for the creation of the service "Assistant for a person with a mental disorder", which is carried out within the framework of the project "KNOW - we change, teach, advocate, mentor inclusively" was the need to highlight and bring to the attention of the local authorities of Kyiv the needs of people with mental disorders on the way to barrier-free.

The task of the project itself is the need to obtain a basis for making a decision by the authorities of the city of Kyiv regarding the implementation of the service "Assistant for a person with a mental disorder", which is necessary to improve the quality of life

this vulnerable population group.

The project group conducted in-depth interviews, where the research criteria were:

A — Subjective assessment by a person with mental disorders of their independent living skills

B — Satisfaction of a person with mental disorders with his skills in a certain area of ​​life

B — Evaluation of the activity of a person with mental disorders in searching and receiving

medical and social services in the community

D — Satisfaction of a person with a mental disorder with the quality of services received in the community

D — The subjective opinion of a person with mental disorders about the possible influence of an assistant on improving his independent living skills in various areas and improving the quality of life.

The study showed that the majority of persons with mental disorders live in families, are on supportive treatment, are aged from 21 to 79 years, have low or extremely low social contacts and opportunities for communication, low or extremely low level of household independence, opportunities for earning and receiving medical services.

According to reports from the Department of Social and Veteran Policy in the city of Kyiv and the Department of Health Protection in the city of Kyiv, the ratio of the total number of requests for psychiatric help to the number of state specialists in 2023 is 9 minutes per year!

The numbers speak for themselves. The city does not have the resources to meet the need of the residents of Kyiv for psychiatric care, which is now needed by a much larger number of citizens and members of their families, the aid system is reduced and ineffective, it is more focused on the care system than on the system of social rehabilitation and support. Therefore, the work of such organizations as the NGO "PSYHABILITY" with their expertise, experience, and motivation should interest the capital authorities as one of the resources in providing assistance to persons with psychosocial and intellectual needs.
